Prayer Plants Types to Buy

We love prayer plants. One of the things we are often asked is what are the best ones to buy?

This is a very subjective question and very much down to personal preference. As well as the level of care you are prepared to put into your plant.

Prayer Plants

The first thing to understand is what is a prayer plant. The answer is perhaps more complicated that we want it to be. It is not a single plant! But a group of plants that all share the same unique ability to undertake a process called nyctinasty. This means they have the ability to close, fold, or roll their leaves at night and open them again in the morning! Pretty cool!

These plants tend to naturally occur in tropical forest floors, where they receive dappled or indirect light. With so many different prayer plant types, finding the right one for you can be tricky. Some love brighter indirect light. Some do not like much light at all. Others require humidity and warmer temperatures, making them a little more demanding to care for.

There is a prayer plant for most indoor positions. However, when you are looking to find the right prayer plant types for you. The key to success is deciding on where you will home your new plant pal. Then look for a prayer plant that will thrive in the conditions your chosen spot will provide!

Perhaps the most popular prayer plants are the various species of Calathea or Maranta. Some popular examples include Maranta Leucanera, Calathea orbifolia and or course Calathea Freddie!

All of these varieties don't like too much indirect light and prefer higher humidity levels.
