Frequently asked questions

Why do orchids grow in clear pots?
Phalaenopsis orchid roots can photosynthesise, so a clear pot lets light reach them. It also lets you see when the roots are dry and need watering.
What size pot does an orchid need?
Orchids like a snug pot. Choose one just big enough to hold the roots, usually 9–12cm for a standard Phalaenopsis.
When should I repot my orchid?
Repot every 2–3 years, or when the bark has broken down, ideally after flowering has finished.
Do orchid pots need drainage holes?
Yes. Orchid roots rot quickly in standing water, so use a pot with plenty of drainage, or an inner pot inside a decorative orchid pot.
