Grow something truly exotic with a pepino melon plant (Solanum muricatum). This compact shrub produces attractive, often purple-striped fruit with a sweet, juicy flavour somewhere between melon and cucumber.

Pepinos are tender, so grow them in a greenhouse or conservatory, or on a sunny patio in summer, then bring them indoors before the first frosts. Water regularly and feed with a tomato feed once fruit starts to form.
