Switch grass (Panicum virgatum) is a versatile ornamental grass. Its upright clumps of foliage are topped with clouds of airy flower heads in late summer, and many varieties turn rich shades of red, gold or purple in autumn.

Switch grass thrives in full sun and is drought tolerant once established, making it ideal for prairie-style planting and modern borders. Cut back old growth in late winter.
