More About Alocasia Dwarf Amazonica Houseplant

With its stunning leaf shape, sometimes described as heart or arrow shaped, or more commonly as 'elephant ears' the Alocasia dwarf Amazonica is a visually distinctive plant perfect for your collection.

Its deep green leaves with distinctive veiny pattern make this plant easy to spot! Growing from tubers, each new leaf grows progressively bigger than the previous.

The elephant ear plant does best in bright indirect light, however, it is can tolerate some direct early morning or late afternoon sunshine. It can grow in a shady spot too, but it can be fussy if it does not get enough light and the amount of light required can vary from plant to plant.

As a plant that grows from a bulb, the alocasia dwarf amazonica will at times drop its leaves and grow new ones. The leaves this plant grows are known to become rather large in the right conditions.

The elephant ear plant is a plant that can demand the attention of its plant parent. They require perfect
conditions in order to thrive. Despite the extra effort that they can demand, the stunning foliage architecture and striking leaf pattern make this plant well worth going to the trouble to keep.

A tray of pebbles is a great way to help keep the plant in its own humid micro climate. It also prefers a slightly drier soil and so allowing the top 5cm of the soil to dry out before re-watering is a great way to achieve these conditions.

This houseplant should be kept away from heat sources and dry air, such as radiators and heaters, which will reduce the humidity around the plant and make its growing environment less than ideal.
