More About the Ponytail Palm

The ponytail palm is a very easy plant to own. It grows slowly, can be located almost anywhere out of direct sunlight and does not need humid conditions - perfect for the a UK home.

The ponytail palm is actually not a palm at all! It is a member of the asparagus family. It gets its name from its large swelling at its base in the soil. This acts a kind of water reserve, perfect for life in the desert. The large swelling with long hair like leaves resembles a ponytail, hence its name.

It's natural habitat is the deserts of central America and it loves moist soil in partial light.

The ponytail is a very slow grower - it lives to a very old age, hundreds of years in fact!

Get its position right and water it consistently - not necessarily often, and this plant will be one of the easiest to care for in your collection!
