Meet the Calathea lancifolia (Rattlesnake plant)

The Calathea rattlesnake plant (Goeppertia insignis) is native to the tropical rainforests of Brazil, where it grows low to the forest floor beneath dense tree canopies. Adapted to warm, humid conditions and dappled light, it thrives in the shaded understory, using its striking wavy leaves to capture limited sunlight. The plant gets its common name from the bold, dark green markings on its pale green foliage, which resemble the pattern of a rattlesnake’s skin, while the deep purple undersides add to its dramatic rainforest character.
